Glued sketches together in PS, so it will remain as a one day of sketching. Feel bad for using Moleskine for such scribblings, but at list I used both sides of pages.

West 10 street.

Greta watercolor briques on handmade  paper and Kuretake 13 brush pen. It is street in Manhattan, nice building, a bit of snow. I am hoping that black ink cartridge in Kuretake will get used up and I can insert converter and mix my own ink, or may be I will use another cartridge and push myself to draw more to exhaust it and insert converter.

Sketching with triangular pencil.

I walked today on snowy roads, my car still stuck in snow.
I took the lightest bag with me because I want to  draw.  (sorry for the poem, it was just too funny and rhythmic).
With minimum drawing stuff, only 15 pens and pencils in my orange pencil case and brown book, hoping that today would be long waiting, so I can sketch. So here I used this interesting pencil-ruler and touch of white pen.

It was not long waiting at all but still got few sketches and headache.

Triangular pencil.

Portrait of interesting flat triangular pencil-ruler from Japan. On one side it has markings in inches 4 and 5/8, below - in centimeters, probably 12, don't have tape measure in cm. On the other side it has few little stars and says Peace. If I will need to measure something suddenly, while drawing, this would be very useful. Lets say for rendering in scale. I love metal pencils, seems reliable. Today snowed again and transportation didn't work in the morning.

Manhattan again.

Ink on watercolor paper, yellow marker and green water soluble pencil.  I like to draw with antique pencil, it makes me think in centuries, not years.

Scribbling.

I dragged sketchbook through the day abusing  thin paper, scribbling whatever interested me, trying to sketch tiny antique silver pencil, but my telephone conversation took too long, so poor pencil got too much torture. I may have to redraw it in more gentle way.

Antique pencil-knife.

Another little treasure, this time from Indiana. I opened to look at mechanism and was surprised by sharp little knife on the opposite side from the lead. Size is 1.18mm, pretty hard. Length 5 inches. Today was sad day because of what happen in Moscow Airport, people died, people got hurt. When will we feel safe on our little planet?

City.

It was interesting angle to look at the City. I found this faded, I guess,  old piece of paper and tried ink on it. Some sort of nostalgic feeling. I wanted to use hard surface with the clip, don't have anything better than wooden inner part of easel. Comfortable.

Old pencil, made in Japan.

Another old treasure - propelling pencil from Japan. It has interesting back of the pencil, comes off with upside down eraser, locking compartment with extra leads, 1.18mm size. Matte finish helps to hold non slippery pencil comfortably while drawing. If you could say it about pencil, feels so groomed and clean, like it takes showers every day. Underneath sketched with Ebony pencil.

Tea.

Sketched cup of tea with french mints. Used ink and touch of Gretacolor Aqua Brique made in Austria. It is watercolor in block form, looks like enlarged toy, but comfortable with water brush. Would be hard to carry around, but good at home. Drew my cat coasters we got in St Augustine, Florida,  in that amazing Cat store.

Talking about my antique mystery pencil Opel.

Open. To compare I put near black 1.18 mm pencil.

Comparing 2 sizes. Opel on the right, opening is much bigger than in other, black pencil with 1.18 mm opening. I tried  to insert 2 mm, but it is too big. So what size lead this 4 color Opel should take? 1.8 mm?

Stone jungle.

It is not that easy to see the sky between tall buildings in the city. Ink and Kuretake pen brush in Moleskine. Couple of colors with  that vintage Faber pencils.

Manhattan from the car.

I missed inking in Moleskine. I used few inks here and couple of vintage Mongol Eberhard Faber watercolor pencils. Its called Paint with Pencils. First watercolor pencils, I think. I got to investigate how old this set is. Pencils a bit scratchy, but so adorable.

Pencil sketches.

I was really happy to draw on the train, to try out pencil and just relax. At one point one pretty women stared at me very intensely, folding hands with apple phone in front of her. She, probably thought I drew her, but I was drawing  that person with checkerboard hat near her. I was trying to find opportunity to smile, but I couldn't, so kept sketching with emotionless expression.

Here on the way back. We didn't win parking ticket. Sketched and chew hot sugary cashew nuts I got on the street near court.

Perfect pencil by Faber-Castell.

Could not resist a good deal on Ebay, got "perfect" pencil. Read interesting reviews on it, how comfortable it is on the go with sharpener and lead protector in the cap. It will fit Palomino and Blackwing pencils. Awesome. With metal cap it cost enormous money $250-495, I am good with plastic one. Drew it with ink and few colored  Faber-Castell pencils in Moleskine on the top of scribbling in the doc office.

Marika and cake.

Here is Marika, she speaks Hungarian and she is very sweet person. She works in the house where I touched up mural recently. She made me nice coffee and brought this wonderful cake. I mention in the other post that while working downstairs she was singing opera arias, it was pretty amazing.  And about this cake, it may not look  that special, but the taste was mind blowing, some tiny pieces of nuts and thin layer of coffee cream, and topped with coconut. I used ink in Moleskine.

Mural with woven layer last touch.

I made mural in the bathroom even more muted, because designer wanted it very subtle.

Here, near mural,  is window treatment, in silver. I really like it, silver net. It corresponds with other silver accents, like round stool and rug, and hardware. I also got amazing piece of cake from this nice lady, hungarian housekeeper,  drawing of it I will post later.

Parking lot and crooked pencil.

I was waiting for Jeff in Long Island and tried small leftover Conte pencil, sort of charcoal, I think, on this brown paper. Works nice on it, but messy. Good for fast impressions. On the top I drew weird crooked old advertising pencil Koranda Well. On the clip it said Wings. It is bent in pleasant way, sits comfortable in my hand. Takes 1.18 lead, I put in from 1940 stock.

42 street in Manhattan.

One of the busiest streets. Even at night. Ink and added 2 Inktense pencils later. One day I want to make my own sketchbook in a regular book jacket, so drawing in public would be even more discrete, it would look like I am reading a book.

Bryant Park from Ave of America's side.

When my daughter was little we use to go to Manhattan every weekend, I planned our adventure ahead on a computer: place to see, place to eat, walk a lot, little fun to buy something , so she will tolerate exhibitions and serious music. We called it celebration of life. It was exhausting but wonderful. So she got used to museums, opera, concerts. (It was pretty cheap, family and student's special discounts). And we fell in love with Manhattan, where you can always find something new to explore. So here Bryant Park from Ave of America's side and I fit  people in. Ink and couple of Inktense pencils.

Manhattan towards Grand Central.

Hard to fit in stretched to the sky Manhattan's buildings even in my furry sketchbook 11 3/4x8. I used mixed ink, it has a feeling of old daguerreotype, which I like. I want to feel connected.

I missed drawing with ink on a good paper. So here is our first day of the year, we went to Manhattan to pick up Inna after her New Year's escapade with friends. Seems almost no cars, people walking, enjoying peace after craziness of the night. Afterwords add a bit of color with few Inktense pencils.

New Year's Eve.

Driving through Manhattan on New Year's Eve, was lucky to escape ticket from NYPD officer. Used interesting Exam pencil from Fiber-Castell with flat lead 2B.
