Door in Brooklyn.

Typical doorway in Brooklyn. I used Falcon Namiki in Moleskine sketchbook.

Woodhaven Boulevard in Queens.

I am sick like a dog, but drawing makes me forget everything, so I added a bit more color to this sketch. I used Palomino pencil, Falcon pen with sepia ink and a little bit of vintage watercolor in Moleskine sketchbook. Its ok that I misspelled Woodhaven.

Everyday-ki # 2.

My busy today. Just one appointment, really bad grilled chicken, even cats didn't like it and charming Asian store on Ave U, where I got some nice stuff, including my favorite japanese rice cakes and triangle lollipops. Drew with Hero pen with ballet nib in small squared Molly.

Flowers for Inna.

Watercolor in Moleskine WC with Lukas paint and few touches of black ink. Missing painting. Add last touches before breakfast and now off for coffee and russian news.

Cats.

Sketched cats.

My little helper on his post.

Fellini.

Pencil "Shorty".

Still playing with Shorty, dragging along the way.

View.

I don't have enough patience to do detailed drawing. I used Falcon with Sepia ink and colored pencils, and touch of Sepia ink wash for value of trees. Every day Manhattan looks different, depending on the weather, time of the day and my mood.

Hats.

Pen and pencils in Moleskine sketch.

Bardak.

Really quick pencil sketch done with 3.15mm "Shorty". I was trying to rotate pencil, so thick lead will sharpen by itself, so I don't have to think of getting lead sharpener and how I am gonna carry it with me, but it didn't really work out, lead stayed dull and rounded.

Red.

Little sketches in squares.

When no time to sit and draw I can pretend that I am invisible and scribble Everyday-ki on my way.

Digital work by one artist.

Natalie Ratkovski "In the rain".

She shows the process, amazing.

Red roofs in Queens.

Sepia ink, pen, bit a watercolor in Moleskine WC A4.

Dunkin Donuts in the City with Hero pen.

I got really interesting calligraphy fountain pen, Hero M86 Chinese pen with bended nib, standing like a ballerina on her toes (very cheap, $12). Here I used it both ways and difference in thickness is amazing. I saw it by Tia from Singapore on Flickr and loved her line work. Here added some touches of markers. Never thought I'll end up using markers in my sketches.

Song, I got today in email.

Song 1922.

Eddie's Pizza Truck in the City.

Falcon fountain pen and Faber-Castell colored pencils in Moleskine sketch. It is 14 today, elki-palki.

Hartmann's Kaffee Haus, operated by Germans.

We use to go there for sweets, authentic European cakes, cookies  and pies. Food is also delicious, sausages. But mainly it was for a view on the way, called 5 Points, where you can see in the ocean of blue air 5 states, laying like you would see it from the airplane, like alive map. We called it celebration of life. Watercolor in Fabriano book.

Drawing with Shorty.

As soon I start sketching, they all got called in. I wonder, why don't I  like receptionists?

Motorcycle. Sheepshead Bay Rd in Brooklyn.

That was a pretty one on the pavement of Sheepshead Bay Road. I like boys toys. I used small Winsor and Newton watercolor in WC Moleskine A4, one Koi water brush with diluted blue watercolor and one Conceal Beauty makeup brush from CVS Pharmacy. And Kuretake 13.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Brooklyn Bridge, my favorite bridge.

Shorty pencil and bits of watercolor in Moleskine sketch. May be I need to find Shorty lead sharpener, because its getting all rounded and I can't carry piece of sand paper with me all the time. But I really like that pencil is light, fat and friendly.

Kingshighway.

I have interesting ability to see things, I saw before in a new light, every time is a first time. I forget how it looked before. This why I am never bored. (May be everybody is like me?) So this how I saw the place, where we usually go for cat food, this time, with dramatic shadows and bits of red. Watercolor (Japanese) and ink in Arches book.

2 min sketch, when went for cat food.

Sepia. To define composition.

August 7.

I used here 3 languages, funny, as a frame. Decorations on the plate I did with a brush pen, Kuretake 13. I thought it would be interesting contrast with watercolor. I used watercolor Lukas in WC Moleskine. This is my first EDM challenge. Draw what you ate for dinner (in Chinese characters), hopefully it is a little bit recognizable. I bought ingredients in Chinese store on Ave U and used my imagination, it turned out pretty delicious.

Retro.

Vegetable parmesan.

"Shorty" is a fat short pencil with 3.15 mm lead, Worther, from Germany. So I was dragging my pencil around and draw what I saw to give it a try.  Fennel looks very interesting and adds a lot of flavor to amazing Vegetable Parmesan dish.

Union Square Market, blue tent.

I added color even knowing it is not the right paper for it. I used my smallest mop brush, Winsor and Newton #2. The biggest I have 817/12 and I will need an easel to use it and big pad.

Sketching people in the medical office.

May be I am not right and project my own feelings?

Tuesday.

Another Moleskine entry, no time for myself.

IMovie of Tia's sketching, from Singapore.

Tia's sketch.

I find it very interesting to look how artist sketching and I like her "splash in advance" technique.

People chilling on Brighton.

Sketching people from the car, while waiting for gyro. One guy came with his own chair to sit under the train. Palomino pencil, Frixion point pen.

Monday, August 2, 2010

Union Square market.

Fresh produce in the heart of the city. I saw "Bread alone" there. Bakery located in Boiceville, village Upstate, not far from us, we use to go there once a week to get cat food, in happy times. We often went there for bread and sweets, or bowl of soup.  Here again I used Falcon pen and Sepia ink.

Thai food with red chopsticks.

I am playing with Namiki Falcon and Sepia ink by Omas, ink from Italy. Little tribute to Thai food we enjoyed.

Portico.

Portico on 17 street near Union Square. I love thin lines of Falcon on Moleskine Sketch paper.

Fruit breakfast and cat.

Breakfast in bed, as usual, with my cat, who has to examine whats on a menu. Vintage watercolor set on Arches book.
