Beer. Sweet memories of a day in New York in ink and mixed media.
I used gold leaf and some sparkly inks. Tried to scan and end up just using my iPhone.
Otherwise, colors and gold just impossible to recognize.  
Used very special paper with deckled edges from the Handmade Watercolor book, my Birthday present.

Selfie with the toothbrush.

It is sort of a self portrait. Artists look so serious when painting self portraits. I was not joking. I was thinking if my inner pain ( and artists always full of that inner pain, because they constantly searching for ways and answers, so I told my daughter don't ever get involved with artists, :) one in the family is more than enough), so if my inner pain is looking at me in the mirror.
I used ink and Kuretake on Arches paper.

The portrait of Hill.

I did the portrait of Hill a while ago, but running around so much and feeling that time is seeping between my fingers, and I don't do even a small portion of what I have to do is pretty overwhelming.

This time I was drawing it with this frame on mind and pulled some blues on her dress to connect with the frame. You are turning 25 only once in your life, I remember mine... and all that feelings. Time of making decisions that may affect your life forever.
I used ink and Bienfang brush pens for touch of color.

Little trick with the wine splashing beyond the shape of a glass is a little hint about youth and femininity, which is impossible to control and regulate, this reflection of wine colors on her finger, textures on the background, all that gave me fun doing it.

Drawings of me in my first art school.

I was searching for stencil and stumbled upon couple of drawings of me by my peers in my first art school. We drew all the time and this time we were posing for each other. This drawing by Andrew, he lives now in Germany, pretty successful painter.

Here I was drawn by the other boy, Alexander, who is now also pretty well known artist in NY and Germany. :)

Marcel Proust.

One of my favorite writers, whose books I brought with me (not all 7 books, because in my time it was not possible to find them all, not translated), so some I got here, in English. I had one sentence of his, I copied from the book, hanging on the wall of my studio for years, thinking, it is so perfect for painting, it is painting in words, one day I will paint it. About morning in the mountains, red  highlights on the horses backs and gold on the helmets, and fog, and hope, long sentence, like most of his. Unfortunately I don't know French, to read it in original, to be able to understand and enjoy fully. Twenty something years later I still didn't paint it.
I used ink for this drawing. And it has a faint shimmer in some spots, which scanner didn't pick up.

It says Smile in Japanese. I am finally trying Diamine ink in a full range. I like the color and flow, it is a very friendly sepia.
This weekend I became a happy owner of Kindle, present from my daughter, thank you tredecillion  times Inna!
So what can I do? Draw.
I Used Diamine ink and green Kuretake for eyes on Bockingford 90 lb paper.

Card but late.

 I read that tweet online about call for artists to make a card for charity purposes to raise funds for The Women's Crisis Center in Moss, Norway, to support abused women and children. I happily did the card in sepia ink and green Kuretake and only than found out that it is too late and exhibit is already open for 2 days. :-/ 

Portrait with the mirror.

While running around hopelessly and helplessly (January  was never my favorite month of the year, even it is not freezing or worse), I manage to ink another portrait with mixed ink, one green Kuretake pen and Inna's help. I already see so much what I could of done differently and I want to add and change, but I'd rather do another one, and may be ink will get browner and mood will change.

I played a little bit with Clone tool to clean the background and removed "red" eyes. I read a bit about new tools in Photoshop 5 and got mad jealous, really want to try this Puppet Warp tool.
I wanted to show emotion through the soft light here and used 2 languages.

Trip to Albany.

Playing with light and color. One of my favorite Kuretake pens is drying out. I wanted to show strong contrast of the light and shadows and rich red of the barns outside. Again it is about beauty of youth and being a part of life. Ink and Kuretake pens.

I played with 2 inks and few Kuretake pens, used white pen a little bit, wrote "be happy" in shaky half dissolved letters (I love puddles), and now I deserve breakfast.
