Five Guys.

I planned many times to show my appreciation of this wonderful burger place in Kingston, but something always didn't go the way I imagine, I either finish my burger completely or could not stay longer neglecting  my messmate. But this time since I went alone, all I had to do was to sustain curiosity of the other eaters and make unapproachable faces while sketching. I added color later with few Kuretake brushes and a little help of Namiki Falcon pen.
I tried "Five guys" in the City, it was no comparison. The ink I used experimental J.Herbin. Can't wait to finish my samples and go back to my ink routine.

Boats on Bockingford paper.

I sort of gave up after painful battle with the scanner. Paper is too big for it and too crooked, so it is approximated version of that boats and canal near Kings Plaza in Brooklyn, made with Sepia ink, couple of Kuretake pens, white gel pen, Namiki Falcon pen on gray Bockingford 140 lb paper.
Paper, even seems so strong and excepting water start buckling in a process, but the good part its really easy to burn, hard not to burn completely.
Namiki Falcon is the most amazing pen created by genius.

City street in Stillman&Birn.

First sketch in Stillman&Birn Beta series sketchbook. For some reason scanner made drawing more pale than in reality. I am pretty impressed with thick and textured paper, I love square format, it is 7"x7".  For some reason most sketchbooks anything but square, meanwhile square gives enough space for sky and you can choose composition freely.
 It said Extra Heavy Weight paper and paper took my ink washes easily, would be really good for watercolor.
I like that holes are squarish, attractive. If using pencil I would spray with clear matte finish to protect from smudges, especially if carrying in my bag.
Because it is opens so comfortably I am thinking I could use both sides of the page, than it makes it 50!
I barely hold myself from dragging layer of venetian plaster over the sketch, paper will take it, not sure how sketch will feel. I will hold on to this idea for something more bold.

West Village.

 Scene in the City. In this weather so many street cafes bring their tables outside, fun to sketch, street signs, bus stop, colorful details of the city life. I used ink and added bits of color later with beloved Kuretake pens. I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush, really enjoyed their delicate tip, since my water brushes loosing sharp point, even I tried to trim it with scissors, as advised by Laure Ferlita.
 Spent all morning fighting with scanner, lost hope, because it broke lines into red and green pixels, but my usual stubbornness worked again for me and it scanned for now. I think we should appreciate stubborn kids (my father didn't think so), because it is a sign they won't give up easily and try again and again till they may solve the problem.
 Couple of days ago I decide to get rid of my old PC and beforehand erase all data from the hard drive. I Googled how to, I made my old slowpoke connect to Internet, download program on disc and for 3 hours erase all data including operating system without any chance of recovery. That was really cool.

Royal Seafood.

This is store at the beginning of Brighton Beach, corner of Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn. If you are in the mood for nice seafood salad or smoked eel, or caviar, or running out of time and hate shopping this store is good for you. Also here is the cheapest sunflower oil, which I like for salad dressings. Here I used ink, few Kuretake pens and decide to outline with delicious Namiki Falcon pen with sepia ink. I like to distress edges of paper, makes it look more vintage, I think.

Liqueur.

It is 2 sketches here. First I sit near the fire and drew tea boxes, than, after trying this amazing liqueur, my friend brought from France, I sketched it on the top of the tea box, and the level of liqueur in this double bottle got lower and lower... Watercolor and ink in Holbein sketchbook.

Colgate lake in October.

Went to the lake, drew from the car. Watercolor and pen in small Holbein sketchbook. Walk there with Pig, it was so cold that my ears froze and almost fell off, no wonder people, who passed by looked like snow man in layered clothes.

I drew in pencil, than with Falcon. I  love this pen, just to screw and unscrew the cap fills me with joy.

Passing by.

Really pretty place, some kind of a park with boats and trees along the Belt, I looked at many times. On the way to White Planes, struggling in traffic, it was a moment of happiness. Sepia ink and Faber-Castell colored pencils in my red Moleskine.

Woodhaven Boulevard in Queens.

I am sick like a dog, but drawing makes me forget everything, so I added a bit more color to this sketch. I used Palomino pencil, Falcon pen with sepia ink and a little bit of vintage watercolor in Moleskine sketchbook. Its ok that I misspelled Woodhaven.

I don't have enough patience to do detailed drawing. I used Falcon with Sepia ink and colored pencils, and touch of Sepia ink wash for value of trees. Every day Manhattan looks different, depending on the weather, time of the day and my mood.

Eddie's Pizza Truck in the City.

Kingshighway.

I have interesting ability to see things, I saw before in a new light, every time is a first time. I forget how it looked before. This why I am never bored. (May be everybody is like me?) So this how I saw the place, where we usually go for cat food, this time, with dramatic shadows and bits of red. Watercolor (Japanese) and ink in Arches book.

Union Square market.

Fresh produce in the heart of the city. I saw "Bread alone" there. Bakery located in Boiceville, village Upstate, not far from us, we use to go there once a week to get cat food, in happy times. We often went there for bread and sweets, or bowl of soup.  Here again I used Falcon pen and Sepia ink.

Thai food with red chopsticks.

I am playing with Namiki Falcon and Sepia ink by Omas, ink from Italy. Little tribute to Thai food we enjoyed.
